Abstract

Growth is regulated by a complex interaction between multiple gene products. One particularly important growth factor, called IGF-1 is so potent that its activity is controlled by a family of binding proteins. This project examines one particular binding protein (IGFBP-5) and examines its function in terms of IGF-dependent and -independent actions with particular emphasis on myogenesis.
