Abstract

The genome sequence is now available for humans and many animals. However, we know little about the factors that combine to regulate the switching-on and switching-off of gene activity during development of the organism. It is thought that combinations of transcription factors and so called epigenetic factors such as the structure of chromatin are important for the control of gene activity. We are developing a system in cells in which a defined gene locus can be targeted with transcription factors, and transcription and properties of the chromatin can be measured in vivo.
