Abstract

The interaction of cellular proteins with lipid membranes is an important question in Biology primarily because such interactions determine the correct subcellular localisation and activity of cellular proteins. In this project we will extend previous observations that showed that sphingosine kinase 1 (SK1), a protein involved in the control of cellular growth, is a specific binding partner of phosphatidic acid, a signalling lipid. This information will be useful in understanding the function of SK1 during growth control.
