Abstract

In comparative functional genomics, relationships between genomes are studied in the light of rich functional data sets, on the transcriptome, proteome, metabolome and interactome. In the fungi, there is a wealth of sequence data from an ever-growing collection of species, many of significant medical or commercial importance, but much more patchy coverage in terms of functional data. As such, there is a pressing need to develop techniques and computational architectures that enable maximum benefits to be drawn from the rich data sets available. This project proposes to develop a service-based grid infrastructure for comparative functional genomics, and libraries of analyses for inter-relating these data sets. The resulting infrastructure will be designed, demonstrated and validated in the context of a study into how fungal pathogenicity - the ability to cause disease in a animal or plant host - first arose.
