Abstract

The goal of the proposed research is to investigate how brain systems for attention and emotion interact and determine behaviour. Using four levels of analysis (behaviour, electrophysiology, functional neuroimaging, and neural network modelling) we will explore how visual attention impacts emotional response. Using visual search and attentional blink procedures, we will manipulate attention and then, later, measure emotional responses to previously attended v. not attended stimuli. Human and model behaviour will be correlated with electrophysiological and imaging data so that brain-behaviour relationships can be elucidated. Both faces and abstract patterns will be used as stimuli. (Joint with BBS/B/16194, BBS/B/16747 and BBS/B/16178).
