Abstract

The aim of our research is to examine dynamic cortical processes within and across multiple sensory and perceptual domains relating macroscopically observable functional imaging signals across three levels of analysis: 1. local neural cell assemblies; 2. long-range cortical interactions; and 3. behavioural performance in psychophysically controlled tasks. We will apply functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and magneto-encephalography (MEG) as methodologies allowing us to bridge the divide between the microscopic level of neural cell assemblies and macroscopically observed behaviour. Additionally we will develop novel dynamical neural network models to investigate the link between observed cortical activity in neuroimaging experiments and human behavioural performance.
