Abstract

St Andrews and Dundee Universities have established a Structural Proteomics Facility with their own and SHEFC funding. We now request funds for an inclusive and multidisciplinary scientific programme exploiting this facility. The science is driven by the applicants' interests addressing significant problems in natural product biosynthesis, glycobiology, pathogenesis and DNA biology. Our key objective is that results will enhance knowledge in chemical biology and molecular microbiology. New technology will speed up gene to protein flow by fully automating cloning and solubility screening. We will develop new expression and protein purification systems designed to improve throughput of impactful research whilst maintaining high success rates. An integrated computing infrastructure will support bioinformatics, data management and crystallographic computing. (Joint with BBS/B/14426, BBS/B/14434, BBS/B/14450).
