Abstract

Medicago truncatula is an essential model system for the study of legume biology. This species allows research into a number of key biological questions that cannot be addressed in Arabidopsis. An international consortium of researchers has coalesced around the sequencing of this model organism. The applicants of this proposal have agreed to seek funds to sequence one out of eight of the M. truncatula chromosomes. We have split the funds required for this chromosome between an EU integrated project that has recently been funded and this application to BBSRC. (Joint with BBS/B/11648).
