Abstract
Endemic disease of cattle imposed a considerable burden on production and welfare. We propose a large study of five infections: Bovine Viral Diarrhoea, Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis, Neospora caninum, Johnes Disease and Leptospirosis. Serological assays will be conducted on a unique collection of 31,000 sera collected longitudinally from 9,000 cattle on 95 beef and dairy farms. We have contact and vaccination data for each farm, a complete movement history for each animal and details of each farms management. We will describe the endemic status and transmission dynamics of each infection separately and simultaneously. The results will inform more efficient control strategies to minimise the impact of endemic disease on the health and production of cattle.
