Abstract

We propose to apply and extend a novel array strategy for rapid screening of heparan sulphate (HS) -protein interactions. HS polysaccharides are multifunctional regulators in which specific protein-binding sequences determine selective regulatory properties. These interactions impinge on many biological systems and disease processes. The array strategy provides a powerful new technology for rapid identification of bioactive saccharides. We plan to apply the method for interrogation of the specificity of the interaction of HS with multiple protein ligands, and we will also investigate its application as a glycomics approach for studying tissue HS interactions with relevant biological ligands.
