Abstract
We will construct complex stochastic models for wild animal population dynamics, with reference to 3 detailed long-term studies. Models will include age-dependent survival and dispersal probabilities, fecundity, and Markovian changes of reproductive state. Time-variation will be modelled through regression on covariates, and over-dispersion will be described through random effects. Methods will be devised for inputting missing values in individual covariates, and population-level covariates will be refined. Classical and Bayesian methods for model-fitting and -selection will be compared. The models will increase understanding of how wild animal populations regulate their numbers, and will be used to study senescence and for prediction.
