Abstract

1) To further our understanding of the natural constraints and prior knowledge required for visual perception, with particular focus on non-visual (extra-retinal) information; 2) To determine the key information required when the brain determines the relative importance of different sources of information in the environment by considering the constraints of natural viewing situations; 3) To examine the mechanisms that enable the brain to acquire knowledge about the constraints of the visual world and to determine the consequences of this acquisition for basic sensory encoding.
