Abstract

The two-component regulators, DegSU, control biofilm formation by Bacillus subtilis. The mechanism of DegSU regulation will be investigated to determine whether salt stress is the environmental signal perceived by DegS to control biofilm formation. The genes regulated by DegSU that are required for biofilm formation will be identified and along with determining the location and function of DegU the regulated genes in the biofilm structure. These experiments will help to determine the molecular basis by which DegSU regulates biofilm formation.
