Abstract
Circular Dichroism (CD) is a valuable method for empirically determining protein secondary nature. However, the reference databases currently available are inadequate. They neither cover all secondary structure types, nor the full wavelength range attainable by Synchrotron Radiation CD (SRCD), with its much higher information content, and contain some notable inaccuracies and discrepancies. This work will create a new reference database for soluble proteins that will: 1) maximise the benefit from the UK SCRD source; 2) enable better distinction between different secondary structural types; 3) improve on existing reference databases usable with conventional CD data.
