Abstract

The interaction with duplex DNA of bimetallic octahedral metal complex containing separate intercalation sites (DNA Clips) will be investigated. The electrochemistry and or photochemistry of the isolated complexes will be investigated. Their interaction with DNA will then be explored using a variety of experimental techniques to ascertain binding affinities. Complexes that display sequence specific binding will be targeted. The use of such complexes as DNA cleaving reagents will also be pursued. These studies will be carried out using a variety of techniques such as absorption and emission spectroscopy, DNA melting experiments, ITC, and SPR. Further studies will use plasmid DNA as a substrate for photocleavage experiments.
