Abstract

Phosphoinositide (PI) signalling is of utmost importance for cellular function and ultimately human health. Specific inhibitors (e.g. wortmannin, LY294002) of PI 3-kinases have greatly facilitated the demonstration that these enzymes are essential regulators of cell growth, survival and development. However, PI phosphatase research lacks specific inhibitors. We are proposing to create a peptide-based PI phosphatase inhibitors using a novel approach amalgamating combinatorial peptide and inositol chemistry, which will ultimately allow us to inhibit specific PI phosphatases in a cellular system.
