Abstract

For maximum utility and effectiveness, the Rapid Generic Expression Systems (RAGES) must yield high quality structural information. Structures are now often being determined by scientists inexperienced in protein crystallography. There is a danger that this will limit productivity, and degrade the quality of information deposited in the databases. This proposal aims to automate the computational aspects of the structure solution process. Scripting will link the various stages in the analysis, and better algorithms will be formulated in three key problem areas: (i) molecular replacement, (ii) generation of atomic models, and (iii) quality assessment.
