Abstract
Protein-membrane interactions play a major role in many biological systems. We intend to study how the presence of a membrane influences the structure of a protein. Lattice protein simulations will be performed to examine the general conditions under which proteins unfold (or fold) and absorb when brought in proximity of a membrane. Incorporating the insights gained from the lattice simulation studies, we will develop continuum modelling of membrane-protein interactions, and validate this approach against the lattice simulation data and with reference to the behaviour of cytochrome c (cyt c), retinol-binding protein (RBP), and barnase.
