Abstract

This multidisciplinary research programme will study the molecular dynamics and structure of the yeast translation apparatus. More specifically, we will: 1. Use X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy to analyse the structures of eIF3/eIF2 and to study their interactions with the 40S subunit; 2. Use high resolution mass spectrometry techniques to characterise interactions between eIF3 subunits; 3. Study the dynamics of scanning 40S subunits using purpose-built imaging equipment and 40S-mRNA binding using novel surface plasmon resonance (SPR) procedures. Technology development will feature strongly in this work.
