Abstract
Mutations in the breast cancer susceptibility gene BRCA1 predispose women to breast cancer. To develop therapeutic agents targeted against proteins involved in BRCA1 mediated tumorigenesis it is vital that the BRCA1 protein and its associated interactions be fully characterised. The BRCA1 protein contains 1863 residues and shows little sequence identity with any other protein consequently, few clues to its biological function are provided by its amino acid sequence. We plan to identify structural domains in BRCA1 and provide a detailed analysis of their protein-protein interactions. In this way we hope to shed considerable light on the mechanism of BRCA1 mediated tumorigenesis.
