Abstract

Although several protein expression systems exist, the choice for any given protein is often made on empirical grounds, an initial system fails and a second is assessed and so on. Any single system is unlikely to provide the optimal expression solution for all protein types but I suggest that an inter-linked set of procedures, an expression suite, could be developed that puts system choice on sound scientific grounds. To do this, I propose to compare and contrast the performance of several protein/system combinations. The analysis will use new combined expression vectors, novel vector modifications and automated yield analysis. These experiments will develop optimised systems for the rapid recovery of high yield bioactive material.
