Abstract

The GABA receptor is the crucial receiver of signals at the inhibitory synapse. The recently identified protein GABARAP has been shown to bind to the intracellular loop of the GABA receptor and to the C terminus of tubulin. It has homology to part of the microtubule associated protein 1B separately identified as binding to another class of GABA receptors. We propose to study the three dimensional structure of GABARAP and its interaction with peptides derived from the intracellular loop of GABA receptors and tubulin by a combination of X-ray crystallography, biophysical techniques and NMR.
