Abstract
This is a proposal to create a comprehensive circular dichroism (CD) spectral analysis resource and electronic communication system which would provide a bioinformatics component for the BBSRC Centre for Protein and Membrane Structure and Dynamics (CPMSD). It would produce a suite of self-consistent web-based programs for CD data processing and analysis that would provide a ready means for comparison of the results of different secondary structure calculation algorithms and reference databases. It would be the focal point for virtual conferences and an electronic bulletin board devoted to CD. A further aspect would be the establishment of a repository database for CD spectra, which would be a resource for examining characteristic features in spectra, for developing new methods, and for information on the signature spectra of specific folded proteins.
