Abstract
The work will entail detailed structural studies on maize streak geminivirus (MSV), to allow the structure to be related to the biological functions associated with the virion. The main emphasis will be to understand the assembly of the twinned quasi-isometric germinate particles which are unique to geminiviruses. This will be achieved by using a variety of biophysical techniques including: multi-sequence alignments and structural modelling, solution scattering, cryo-electron microscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The information obtained will then be used to correlate and map the known functional regions of the capsid protein sequence to the three dimensional structural information.
