Abstract
Poorly phased electron density maps remain a serious problem for macromolecular crystallography. Two approaches are proposed which may form part of a hierarchical approach to automatic interpretation of such difficult maps. The first is to search for groups of residues in common configurations, extending the fast reciprocal space procedure under development. To optimise it a database of structural motifs is required. Results from multiple searches will be merged with proper weighting to provide the best model.
