Abstract

This proposal is to upgrade and continue the existing BBSRC/EPSRC biological microcalorimetry service, based in the Biophysical Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of Chemistry in Glasgow University, providing DSC and titration calorimetry facilities, expertise and analysis for the UK academic bioscience community. Over eight years of successful operation of this service have shown that this is an efficient and cost-effective way to provide specialist instrumental techniques and expertise to the UK academic community. Modest funds for consumables, maintenance, and some technician support will ensure that the service can continue and that users can benefit from our long-term experience in this area. Upgrading of equipment to current standards will ensure that UK bioscientists have access to facilities appropriate to international competitiveness in areas consistent with research council objectives.
