Abstract

Continued support is requested for the circular dichroism facility at Stirling; the facility plays an essential role in a number of projects within five distinct research themes:- (A) Protein folding and stability (leading projects - shikimate pathway enzymes: allergenic proteins), (B) Multidomain proteins (leading projects - flavocytochrome BM31; 2-oxoacid dehydrogenase complexes), (C) Synthetic peptides and proteins (leading projects - ubiquitin, endothelin, erythropoietin), (D) Membrane proteins (leading projects - light harvesting complexes; membrane active peptides), (E) Protein/nucleic acid interactions (leading projects - type I restriction/modification enzymes; base flipping in DNA methyltransferases).
