Abstract

i) To develop a Monte-Carlo programme to simulate the formation of secondary structure (loops and helical stems) during the folding of RNA molecules. ii) To study simple models for the dynamics of systems with rugged energy landscapes, and to relate these to the kinetics of RNA folding. iii) To investigate the relationship between the thermodynamic properties of biological molecules and their fitness in evolutionary terms.
