Abstract

Homopolymer-specific alginases are emerging as enzymatic models for the lyases. We now aim to extend this model to a heteropolymer-specific enzyme. The immediate objectives are: 1) to isolate and sequence the gene encoding the heteropolymer-specific alginase of P. fluorescens; 2) to overexpress and isolate the encoded enzyme; 3) to examine the specificity and catalytic properties of the enzyme and to localise the polypeptide domains involved.
