Abstract

1. Detailed investigation of the kinetics of membrane protein folding using bacteriorhodopsin as a model system. 2. Study of bacteriorhodopsin mutant proteins to determine the role of specific amino acid sidechains in the assembly process. 3. Detailed investigation of the role which Arg175 plays in bacteriorhodospin folding, especially in helix orientation and interactions with lipid head groups.
