Abstract

The future programme will build on our established strengths in protein folding and in structural studies of recognition, signalling and catalysis. We also wish to exploit new scientific developments in Oxford that will reinforce the biomedical aspects of the programme. For example, there is an opportunity to forge links with Molecular Medicine, centered around the John Radcliffe Hospital site (JRS). MRC are funding a structural biology group to be embedded in a new Wellcome building, that will also house groups studying genetic links with common human diseases. This will take place in 1998, at the same time as the next phase of the OCMS. One theme that we wish to pursue strongly in the future is to understand the underlying causes of disease, thereby to pioneer development of novel therapeutic strategies.
