Abstract

i) to determine the molecular basis of the interaction of the A and B-domain HMG boxes of HMG1 with DNA. ii) to determine the extent to which the two domains are able to function singly and the extent to which they cooperate within the intact protein. iii) to determine whether the HMG-box domains bind to chromatin, either singly or as pairs, in the absence of the highly acidic C-terminal tail.
