Abstract
1. To provide a molecular model for a novel superfamily of polyol dehydrogenases through the determination of the three dimensional structure of glycerol dehydrogenase. 2. To analyse the nucleotide, substrate and metal binding sites of glycerol dehydrogenase in order to understand the molecular basis of enzyme specificity chemistry. 3. To analyse the structure of the active site in order to produce proposals for the catalytic chemistry. 4. To use homology modelling to extend the analysis to other members of their enzyme family in order to understand differences in substrate and metal in specificity.
