Abstract

The aim of the proposal is to develop novel biocatalytic routes to a range of different oxygenated heterocycles that are components of biologically active molecules. Two complementary approaches will be explored: (i) the enzyme-catalysed synthesis of hydroxylated acyclic precursors followed by cyclisation to give a 5/6-membered ring (ii) direct bio-hydroxylation of a pre-existing 5/6-membered oxygen containing ring.
