Abstract

RNA differential display will be used to identify genes that are expressed during the recruitment of ovarian follicles using the restricted/restricted - ad libitum broiler breeder model of follicle selection. Differentially expressed bands will be cloned, sequenced and the genes mapped onto the chicken linkage map as part of a different project. The map locations of differentially expressed genes will be compared with candidate genes from QTL identified in a whole genome scan for ovulation rate in an F2 broiler x layer cross. Semi- quantitative PCR will be used to assess the role of candidate genes in follicle recruitment.
