Abstract

The progamic phase of reproductive development which is essential for plant fertility and seed production involves post-pollination events from pollen germination to gamete fusion. Although the cytology of pollen tube growth and fertilisation are well described little is known about the gametophytic proteins which regulate these key processes. The aim of the proposed project is: (1) to apply a targeted genetic screening strategy to identify novel transposon-tagged gametophytic genes which are functionally required for progamic development in Arabidopsis thaliana and (2), to clone genomic DNA at insertion sites at two existing tagged progamic loci and at newly identified tagged progamic loci.
