Abstract
Non-haem haloperoxidases that catalyse stereospecific reactions provide the opportunity to introduce useful functionality to chiral synthons. Using cloned and overexpressed bacterial haloperoxidases associated primarily with antibiotic synthesis, the potential of this class of enzymes will be investigated. A short list of plausible substrates has been designed using 1) existing knowledge on substrate specificity and 2) taking account of the utility of products that would be made.
