Abstract

The aim of this work is to develop the green fluorescent protein (GFP) from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria as a reporter for Streptomyces, in order to localise by confocal microscopy the expression of individual genes within whole, living colonies during development (transcriptional fusions), particularly those involved in differentiation and antibiotic production, and to define the subcellular location of individual proteins (translational fusions), particularly those involved in cell division and chromosome segregation.
