Abstract

The objective is to develop a new technology for analysis of plant wall polysaccharides that will allow simple, rapid, and inexpensive analysis of small quantities of material. This technique will be used to determine the structure of cell wall mannan and xylan polysaccharides in wild type and mutants of the model organism, Arabidopsis thaliana. The technique is based upon high-resolution electrophoresis of fluorescently labelled sugars known as Fluorophore-Assisted Carbohydrate Electrophoresis (FACE).
